She was born in Florence, Italy on September 16, 1924. Her parents were French citizens, Yves Tani and Ersula Richolet. Lina grew up Oran, Algeria where her father owned a large construction company. Her advanced education at the University of Algiers was interrupted by the German occupation during World War II. She met her future husband, E.W. James was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Roger Dale Strickland. James loved his country, and he loved the Lord, but the greatest love of his life was his wife, Katherine Jean Strickland. They met in 1966, after being set up on a date by Katherine's older brother, David. Months later they were engaged and on May 28, 1966, the day after Katherine's eighteenth birthday, they married in Canton, Mississippi. It is simply not possible to express in words the love shared between them, and the strength they each took from it, but when you saw it, you knew. Their daughters, Sonya LeAnne Strickland and Marla Rebecca Watson are eternally grateful to have had such a loving and devoted father. His impact on the women they've become cannot be overstated.
